I recently visited Las Vegas and had a few extra expenses that ALMOST triggered a scarcity mindset.

I travelled to Vegas for a quick trip in support of my sister-in-law and to attended a female entrepreneur conference. I was thrilled to go, but I expected to share accommodations and ended up booking a last-minute hotel in HEAVY American dollars. At first, the added expense felt overwhelming! I’m a Canadian girl, and US prices felt so draining and disappointing, making me question the entire trip.

How did I break out of a scarcity spiral?

To escape a scarcity mindset, I shifted my perspective and thought, “maybe the trip was more expensive, but there is also an opportunity here!” Female entrepreneurs surrounded me, and I was in a city that never sleeps. Who knows what could happen?

Nothing is more expensive than a missed opportunity

Soon after my hotel-shock, my sister-in-law and I were walking down the strip, and suddenly a psychic stopped to give us a message. Getting stopped by a psychic isn’t altogether abnormal in Vegas, but the personal details she knew were! She told me that I needed to be careful about not giving too much, and it was easy for people to take advantage of me. What’s scary is that my sister-in-law and I were just talking about this, with no way of the Psychic overhearing.

This may sound a little woo-woo to some of you, so take it with a grain of salt. But the experience reaffirmed something I’ve come to understand about myself; I like to give, sometimes a little too much. But instead of changing something fundamental about myself, I considered whether my generosity was a good thing.

As it turned out, by the end of the conference I connected with a fabulous new client who signed up for my mastermind, transforming my sunk hotel costs into profit generation! The trip made me money, and I was only open to the opportunity by adapting an abundance mindset and following my generous nature when choosing to support my sister-in-law.

Something similar happened after I visited my aunt a week later.

My aunt is getting older and doesn’t have many resources, so I wanted to give her something. I didn’t want to give her money because, like me, she would likely spend it on others, so I went with her to her favourite clothing boutique and bought her several outfits.

The transformation was amazing. She went from sad and grey to walking into our family pub with swagger and sass, announcing her arrival with flourish and confidence. I was happy to make her happy, and a fantastic thing happened when I got home! I signed my largest client to date.

Final Thoughts!

I’m not saying you need to go on an expensive trip or buy your aunt a new wardrobe to have good things happen to you; these are not things I do everyday! What I’m saying is having an abundance mindset keeps you receptive to receiving abundance. And giving, at least for me, is a conduit to achieving a prosperity.

There are a lot of steps between an unexpected expense and coming home to the biggest deal of my career. I have processes, a content base, and years of experience. But sustaining an abundance mindset has led me to each successive step along my journey. Without my giving nature leading me in business and life, I can honestly say I would be lost.

You may not be as comfortable giving, and that’s totally fine! Abundance can be reflected in many ways using your own talents and gifts! Work within your own skillset to achieve a mindset of prosperity and bad a$$ boss abundance will flow into your life and business.
