I wasn’t planning to record this episode.
Actually, I wasn’t planning to do much of anything last week.
Because life had other plans.
My partner, Lucas, was hospitalized for 8 days with bilateral mycoplasma pneumonia. His oxygen levels dropped dangerously low. He was weak. Scared. And I was right there beside him — canceling calls, putting my business on hold, and postponing a long-awaited girls’ trip to Vegas.
I didn’t think twice.
Because when the people you love need you, you go.
But here’s the part I’m most grateful for — and also the part I need every entrepreneur to hear:
My business didn’t fall apart.
In fact, it ran without me.
Emails still went out.
Clients were still supported.
Sales continued to come in.
And everything kept moving, even though I wasn’t.
And that wasn’t luck.
It was intentional business design.
The Hard Truth: Most Entrepreneurs Don’t Have a Business — They Have a Job Disguised as One
For years, I built a business that relied entirely on me.
If I wasn’t “on,” things stopped. Revenue dipped. DMs dried up. Delivery paused.
It felt like freedom on the outside… but behind the scenes, I was the engine keeping everything alive. Which meant, when life threw a curveball, everything was at risk.
That’s not a business. That’s a job you don’t clock out from.
This past week? It reminded me exactly why I do things differently now.
What Allowed My Business to Keep Running While I Didn’t
Let’s talk strategy for a second — because I want you to walk away with something tactical you can implement today.
Here’s what held my business together when I needed to fall apart:
✔️ Automated Systems: From email sequences to onboarding, my backend is built to function without me. I’ve set up workflows that make sure the show goes on even when I’m offline.
✔️ A Rockstar Team: My team knows how to run the business — not just support me. That difference is everything. When I couldn’t show up, they did.
✔️ Recurring Revenue: I’ve structured my offers and payments to support consistent cash flow — even when there’s no launch, no content, no hustle.
✔️ Cash Reserves: This gets overlooked way too often. I had a safety net — and that safety gave me space to breathe and be present.
✔️ Client Experience That Doesn’t Depend on Me: From group programs to self-paced content, my clients still had what they needed, even if I wasn’t responding instantly.
This is what I teach. This is what I live.
If You’re Still the Glue Holding It All Together…
Then this is your reminder:
You don’t need to burn it all down to rebuild.
You just need to start shifting your foundation.
Freedom in business isn’t about working from anywhere or traveling whenever.
It’s about knowing that when life demands your full attention, your business won’t crumble without it.
Because here’s the truth:
The real test of your business isn’t during the highs.
It’s during the hard seasons. The curveballs. The chaos.
And you deserve a business that backs you up — not one that breaks you down.
